About Course
PQE 001 – History of Education is a foundational course designed to introduce prospective professional educators to the origin, growth, and development of education from ancient times to the modern era. This course explores key historical milestones, philosophical influences, indigenous educational systems, and the evolution of formal education in Nigeria and globally.
Learners will gain insights into how education has shaped societies, the major educational reform movements, and the contributions of notable educators and philosophers such as Plato, Aristotle, Comenius, Dewey, and others. Special emphasis is placed on traditional African education, Islamic and Western education in Nigeria, missionary and colonial influences, and post-independence educational development.
This course will equip teachers with a strong historical foundation, enabling them to appreciate the value of education in national development and to understand the roots of modern educational policies and practices in Nigeria. As this course is designed in line with the TRCN PQE curriculum, it is summarised to point out the key expected examination areas for smart studies.
